Launceston's Tram Fleet

No 1 Launceston's first tram is currently under restoration to make it ready for the 2011 centenary celebrations.

 No 2
This tram was in private hands at Scamander before being obtained by the Queen Victoria Museum in Launceston, where it remains unrestored in storage.

Formed part of a shack at Bicheno with Launceston Tram Number 19.

 No 4
This tram was used as an officials office at the Longford Raceway until the raceway closed down.  It was then moved to J&T Gunns yard in Launceston where it was destroyed.

 No 5 Was used at Royal George, Tasmania and then moved to Evandale.


No 6 Below is a shot of number 6 when it was derailed. Was last known to be at Scamander.

 No 7 Was at Westbury until destroyed by fire.

 No 8 Undergoing restoration at Launceston Tramway Museum.  Body completed, but mechanics to be added!

 No 9 Was used as a shack at Port Sorrell.


 No 10 Was at Swan Bay until one end was obtained by Ralph Proctor and displayed at his home.

 No 11 The body is in a restored state at the Mercure Hotel in Earl Street, Launceston, near where it was constructed in J &T Gunn's joinery.  
To be found in the Tram Bar on the First Floor of the hotel at 3 Earl Street, Launceston, where you can buy your drink and sit in the tram!
The Tram Bar is open from 5pm daily!

 No 12 Destroyed by fire near Preolenna.  Chassis repatriated to launceston then scrapped.

 No 13 This tram was recovered from St Helens and is now in the Tasmanian Transport Museum at Glenorchy, Hobart.

 No 14 Found at Campbell Town where it had been used as a child's playhouse and a storage shed.  Moved back to Launceston Tramway Museum on a low loader.
Now at Bendigo, Victoria being restored for their collection of trams.

 No 15 This tram was used at St Thomas More's School as a tennis pavilion with Tram 21.

No 16 Restored to running condition with diesel motor and hydraulic servos driving wheels.  Used at Launceston's Penny Royal complex, but now moth-balled due to Penny Royal Gunpowder Mill not being in operation.

 No 17 Number 17 was used as a shack at Coles Bay until destroyed by fire.

 No 18 Number 18 was used as a clinic at Punchbowl in Launceston.  Below is Number 18 heading West down Brisbane Street and turning into Tamar Street.

 No 19
Formed part of a shack at Bicheno with Launceston Tram Number 3.


 No 20 Used at Campbell Town until scrapped.

 No 21 This tram was used at St Thomas More's School as a tennis pavilion with Tram 15.

 No 22 Tram 22 was at Westbury until "restored"!  Now fitted out and used at MacDonald's restaurant near Eastlands Shopping Centre at Rosny, Hobart as kids party venue.
Tram is divided centrally for individual parties and is air conditioned.

 No 23 Repatriated to Launceston Tramway Museum and displayed in a derelict, but stabilised state as an information gallery.

 No 24 Was in Launceston until being scrapped.


 No 25 Last known to be at Rosevale property in Campbell Town.


 No 26 Was a kiosk at Coles Bay and then became a shack.  Now undergoing restoration at Launceston Tramway Museum.

 No 27 The hulk of Number 27, some of which was recovered for parts for the restoration of Number 29.
